You get a full game, and you get to take part in a beta. Crackdown probable benefitted from it quite a bit, even though it was a very fun game.

It wasn't so much charging extra for content you will eventually get with the final game, it was using it to raise sales of another game as well as limiting the number of people being allowed in the beta.

If Halo had done the same thing, it would have charged $20-40 solely for the beta with probably 2 or 3 extra maps incl...

It's not so much in the case of GT, because usually the prologues are pretty large, but if other games start catching on and doing similar things it could end up sucking for the consumer.

I hate the idea of pretty much having an unfinished beta-demo released to the public for a price in order to get a little extra income off what is essentially a small portion of the same content (but usually worse than final). The company gets extra money, and a huge beta test, which is nice, ...

Why a video of a car stopping without ABS is newsworthy. The endless E-tunnel of links it takes to get to it doesn't help either.

I'd be more optimistic if the video wasn't 2 minutes long so I could see 20 seconds of footage that actually shows anything I care about or if the video had more than just one display of physics.

Does he not understand that he's just making another generic channel with one show that's actually unique to the station? What happens when people figure that out? I used to watch that channel every time I was in front of a TV that had it, now I don't even remember the last time I watched it.

What's going to happen when all the veiwers that are expecting an actual game network find out it's a normal network with a game show (spike already has one too).

I also lik...

I would guess 360 is going to win NA in march, but the other numbers look pretty good for now. 360's making a lot of headway in EU, and it's gonna be a really close race there by the end of march.

The be all end all of car physics simulation is here--No anti-lock break system.

/dramatic pause

Is this really supposed to be that huge an improvement? congratulations you got a feature that should have been in there at the beginning of last gen. gg. I for one am underwhelmed and unsure why this should be a story.

Things like the fur moving could just be an affected particle system, which isn't that hard or demanding at all. Seemless animation shouldn't be judged either (read: animation that comes more from animator skill than engine).

You should pay attention to render quality, lighting quality, texture quality, number of objects on scene, physical interactions, and physical changes (like the dog or medusa thing at the end).

I can tell a lot of people here aren't huge int...

Edit ur list of developers to include who did the MP. I think Montreal did the MP for the second game, which was an incredible experience. Some of my favorite times on the original xbox were in that game.

If they released the same game without all the glitches and bugs/polished online to remove host advantage etc. it would have been one of the best/most original shooters in a while.

Glitches hurt that game soooooooo much. It was hard to use competitively because of them, so it didn't have that to add staying power, and it turned off a bunch of people who didn't like going into a fight with a pretty much random chance of death.

It still hasn't been done in a game. That doesn't mean it's not possible. The dog changing isn't that complex a thing to do (purely material wise). 3d transformations in actual model and texture/material have been around for a LONG time.

The more interesting thing than it actually changing is if they figured out a way to change the physical properties with it. Like the robot medusa thing at the end had the tips of 2 arms as stone, and the rest was metal. Getting the physical pr...

So what's your point?

what did you disagree with? The fact that I was honest?

Even if it's just an engine demo (which it is), you can't honestly believe none of that if not all of it is going to make it into GoW2. The game is being made by epic themselves, they already know how to optimize it, and even if the character count is a target, it will have a huge affect on the amount of detail on the character models at end product.

For other people: obviously the game doesn't look better outside of lighting. It's using the same models and textures that the or...

It looks more like a large scale physics engine than anything else. The graphical quality wasn't terribly impressive, and imo Force Unleashed looks better from a physics standpoint. I'm not quite sure what this is supposed to bring to the table exactly. Maybe stuff made of more than one substance or things changing from substance to substance? (stone to metal, organic to stone, etc)

It definately wasn't as good looking as Crysis on any front.

What i mean is if you take the pure number of consumers that bought DVD or blu-ray, or do you take that number and divide it by the rough number of electronics consumers.

When DVD came out you might have had less people buy it innitially, but there were probably less than a tenth of the number of people who would actually care about it, whereas now the base of consumers you'd sell blu-ray too is much much larger.

To stall HD formats for long enough to get DD set up. You think if M$ put in as much money as Sony HD-DVD wouldn't still be just as big a contender?

Visual damage isn't always what's important. Other series, forza specifically, have damage systems that are extremely robust. It's not just about performance going down when you hit a wall, it's about performance being affected realistically.

That being said, I hate realistic racers, so I don't especially care one way or another.

Is that based off of pure sales or sales per number of consumers. The electronics consumer base exploded since the release of DVDs.

They're backing it because even if it doesn't sell for 5 years, it'll sell now. You may as well ask why they're still backing PS2. I garantee you retailer support now has very little to do with retailer support in 5 years.

I heard about it before HD-DVD lost. I heard about it well before blockbuster went blu-ray exclusive even.
